Beffen is a small ferry which takes passengers over “Vågen” (“Vågen” is the sea area between Nordnes and the Pier). Beffen is a big part of Bergen’s treasures and the trip over “Vågen” takes 2 minutes.
Beffen takes the trip ca. 50 times a day. Every day Norwegians use Beffen to get to work and tourists use it to get a great experience. In one year ca. 25 000-30 000 people travels with Beffen. The ferry has an engine with 22, 5 horse powers and the name Beffen stands for “Bergen Elektriske Færgeselsgab” which in English means Bergen Electric Ferry company.
The History: In 1894 a person from Bergen named J.C. Troye started the company “Bergen Elektriske Færgeselsgab”. The company’s first ferry was made 1. August the very same year. At first there were twelve ferries, but now Beffen is the only one left.
To take the trip with Beffen is a very fun trip and we would really recommend you to try it if you’re here!
